About Us

Ulrike A. Sawall-Rodriques (Dr. Uli)

Dr. Sawall-Rodriques is from Lubeck, Germany. She received her veterinarian degree from the Freie Universitat Berlin, Germany. Dr. Uli worked in the small animal veterinary clinic of her mother in Lubeck, Germany before completing her studies in Berlin. She has owned and operated Southshore Veterinary Service since 2008.

I have been working at Southshore Veterinary Service ever since I moved to Montana in 2002. I started out in a kennel and veterinary assistant position since I only carried my German veterinarian license. In 2007 I finally earned my American veterinarian license allowing me to practice veterinarian medicine at Southshore Veterinary Service. At the end of 2007, I purchased the clinic and continued to work as a veterinarian.

I love to take care and heal animals. I love to be part of people’s lives while needing help with their pets. I feel I am here for the animals and their owner.

What am I doing when I am not working at the clinic? Mostly I take time to be with my family. Which includes all of my animals! I love to go for walks/hikes-see my dogs having fun while I enjoy the fresh air. I do enjoy swimming, martial arts and some dancing. My best buddies at home are Pita, Kasimir and Letty – but of course there are many more….

Deborah Caldwell-Skow (Dr. Deb)

Dr. Deb Caldwell received her veterinary degree in 1980 from CSU. Along with raising Quarter Horses and alfalfa on their Colorado farm, she & her husband owned a veterinary practice there for 30 years. A lifelong dream was fulfilled with a move to Montana in 2015. Dr. Deb began working with Uli in January 2016. This wonderful opportunity has allowed Deb to continue helping animals and their caregivers, a passion she’s pursued over half her life. Deb spends free time with her family sharing all the Montana outdoors has to offer. Deb’s herd of horses, four Rottweilers and eleven cats are also thrilled to be living the Montana dream!

Gwen S.

Gwen wears a lot of hats here at the clinic. Most days she helps out keeping the place clean, assisting with the animals, or calling clients. On top of all her Southshore duties Gwen is a senior at Polson High School. She recently moved back to the Valley from California. When Gwen is not at work she stays active by playing tennis, working out, and spending time outdoors. She loves reading, fishing, listening to music, hang out with friends, and cuddling her fur babies Scout and Cece.

As a child Gwen and her mom would volunteer at local shelter adoption drives, this really set the tone for her love for animals and making a difference in the world. As of next fall Gwen will be on her way to Pima Medical Institute in Dillon to get her associates in Animals Sciences. Although we will be sad to lose her, we are proud of her to follow her passion.

Debbie Jean D

Debbie joined the SSVS Team in June 18′. She is a Montanan through and through. Her family started a ranch in Whitefish later moving it to Miles City in 2004. You could say that ranching and caring for animals is in her blood! Debbie is a humbled rock star who genuinely loves animals and has a true gift for caring for them.

When she is not at the clinic she is with her dog children; Roxy, Spade, and Hank. They are working cow dogs who love their job and their mom. She also has five Ranch horses; Roper, Dally, Bailey, Peaches, and Dixie. She loves riding and training. You may catch her behind a camera also, she is quite the photographer.

Debbie can’t wait to meet you and your fur baby/babies and we think you will feel the same way!
